Extreme

As part of the exercise in our Macro photography, here are another set of my photographs. But take note, I’m not using a magnifying glass anymore instead, I used a reverse ring.

What is a reverse ring?

A reverse ring is a small metal ring that has a standard filter thread on one side and a lens mount thread on the other. This allows you to attach a regular prime or zoom lens to your camera backwards to fully harness its magnifying powers. […]

So, I used a reverse ring for this one, together with my group mates, of course. We helped each other to have good photographs. Here are the photos:

You need to get closer to the subject when using a reverse ring, because you cannot see anything if you don’t put your camera closer to it. Again, have the right settings for it to take good stills, it depends on you on how you want your photos look like 🙂

Haze to Gaze

Hello. We had a new activity/exercise for our basic photography class. We tried to do Bokeh photography.

Since one of my classmate ask how to do this kind of photography, my professor decided to teach and to try with by ourselves. First what do we mean by BOKEH?

The term comes from the Japanese word boke (暈け or ボケ), which means “blur” or “haze”.

In photographybokeh (Originally /ˈbkɛ/,[1] /ˈbk/ boh-kay — also sometimes pronounced as /ˈbkə/ boh-kə,[2] Japanese: [boke]) is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. (Additional info)

At first I’m disappointed for what I did, because of my camera settings so I set up my Nikon D3100(18-55 Kit Lens) like this: Shutter Speed: 1/5 Aperture: 5.6 ISO: 800

The set up: Closed room

Things needed:

  • Lights (it’s nice if the lights are different in colors)
  • Flashlights or light for lighting effects (needed to emphasize the subjects)
  • Cut-out papers for shape effects of lights (you will see later how)
  • Stuff that you want to be your subject (e.g. Mug, toy, etc.)

And I think it turned out well, although it was not that good but for some reasons for me it was good enough for a beginner like me. *laughs*  here are my photos:

After doing this I am very much happy, because I really want to try this kind of photography. You just have to play with it too and you will end up with cute and beautiful photographs. Gonna try this again for sure.

Our professor asked us if we could join the contest headed by our school entitled SEE. FEEL. CAPTURE. with a theme of “Sustaining Quality: Key To Deliver Competitive Advantage”. I chose to capture the main lobby of Letran where the Letran logo at the ceiling and showing the chapel at the center. Like the title says “Culture of Consicence, Discipline and Excellence” Letran will deliver competitiveness to the students.
